The hotel is about 10 years old. I enjoyed how Japanese the hotel was. From leaving your shoes in a locker by the lobby, to a beautiful room with a comfortable bed that was on the floor, a restaurant that only served wonderful Japanese food for breakfast, and a traditional Japanese hot springs bath on the top floor (Onzen). The staff spoke pretty good English and were very helpful in suggesting things to do and places to eat. The hotel was very comfortable. At 10:30 PM, if you had the munchies, a bowl of free noodles was served in the restaurant for hotel guests.
We chose this hotel because it seemed to offer a good compromise between a Japanese hotel and one more targeted on international visitors. We were delighted by the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. The hotel was very Japanese, including offering a very good Japanese breakfast, plus OK western options. But the amazing feature of the hotel was the Onsen - relaxing on a cedar lounger in a hot water infinity pool looking out at the surrounding mountains was an amazing experience! The hotel is well located close to the station, and about 10 mins walk from the town centre.
New hotel with Japanese style rooms and restaurant. Close to rail station, car rental and Takayama places of interest. Friendly staff with basic English language skills.
No unfavourable comments.
Lovely Japaneese style Hotel and Onsen (spa). A good relaxing spot after buzy Tokyo and Kyoto. Friendly staff. Rent a cheap car and go to Gokayama- go and enjoy the onsen back again. The breakfast is high quality japaneese, plus a fine western style too.
We booked thee rooms and they were all colocated. \Thew hotel and staff were charming and it gave us a little of the traditional experience. We loved the Japanese breakfast and staff were gracious and helpful.
Absolutely no complaints. It was a great stay.
Really enjoyed the onsen and excellent breakfast.
Rooms are small so they need to take out some of the furniture eg armchair and table, which make the room difficult to move in.
In this Japanese style hotel you can you can chose between 3 different private baths in different designs-every one wonderful to relax in after a long strenuous day of sightseeing.Breakfast is a very rich buffet, mixed Japanese and Western, enough for every palate. This hotel ranks among the bests of our 2 months tour of Japan.
Although we had asked for a no-smoking room,it turned out to be quite difficult to find a room that did not smell of cigarets. It seems that the rule of smoke in designated areas only is ignored.
This hotel was one of the best we visited during our time in Japan. It's a great balance between traditional and modern. The staff were very friendly and helpful regardless of our lack of Japanese. The facilities were of a very high standard throughout. The breakfast, while offering traditional Japanese, was very accessible to us and friendly. There was also fresh fruit for those not ready for very savoury or fish breakfast. This was not common in many of the ryokans and traditional hotels. The spa facilities were very well kept, offering both private baths and communal (split by gender of course!) bath which included open air hot spa on the roof. Rooms were well equipped and very comfortable with a little more usable space than some of the western style hotels.Only 10 min walk from the train station. Highly recommended!
No wifi, but it is free at the train station. The restaurant only serves a set meal in the evening but there are plenty of nice places to eat in town about 15 min walk away (Recommend Alice restaurant!)
Loved the private Onsen available.Great buffet breakfasdt included. Great Ryokan feel about the hotel.
The breakfasts were excellent.
1. Couldn't control the room temperature. 2. No dinner available at the hotel. There was a set menu that required reservations. We were not told about this and can't read Japanese. The dinner was sold out so we had to go out, cold and tired, to find a restaurant in the neighbourhood. This hotel fails on the basis of these two deficiencies, which are basic and vital requirements as far as I'm concerned.
This hotel is close to the Takayama railway station. It's an easy 5 min walk with luggage. This is a Japanese style hotel so shoes are left in lockers on the ground floor. The staff were very polite and patient with our lack of Japanese and spoke/understood enough English that we had no problem communicating. The room was typically small by Western standards but 2 suitcases were okay. Our bed was comfortable. By the time we stayed here we had mastered the onsen experience. We enjoyed this onsen on the upper floor very much. The water was lovely and hot - much appreciated after the cold night's walk to find dinner. Your room also has a shower if you prefer. The hotel rate also included a buffet Japanese breakfast. Yum! A lovely stay!
This hotel was very luxurious! It is within very easy walking distance of the JR railway station. It was a little tricky to work out which direction, as information desk closed before 5 when we arrived, with snow falling! Just head left - on the same side of the road, on the first corner. Small hot pool in the front of the hotel. We loved the private open-air onsen! The reception staff were very helpful with quite good English. We enjoyed the Japanese experience with Tatami floors, and almost futon style beds - which were very comfortable! The Japanese "pyjamas" they offered were a fun experience, though designed for narrow hips! :) We were surprised that we couldn't eat dinner at the restaurant without a reservation as there was almost no-one in the restaurant, however, there were quite a number of good eating places within close walking distance near the station that took credit card and had English menus - and great food! The buffet breakfast in this hotel was very extensive, including a few Western items for the less adventurous. Restaurant staff had less English though. Overall a wonderful experience! We only wished we'd had more than one night to stay in Takayama.
The level of service and facilities was excellent. The hotel was very japanese which we wanted and it was a great experience.
I enjoyed the private onsen on the 13th floor, the clean and modern rooms in a Japanese style, and the excellent buffet breakfast.
Free rental of private onsen, with the additional touch of free drinks provided after the onsen
The rooms were very small
