would definitely return
Great location just a 5-min walk from the train station. The room was cozy with a single air conditioning unit, tatami flooring, and a private bathroom stocked with toiletries. The onsen on the rooftop offered stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the free ramen in the evening was a nice touch. Clean place with friendly staff.

A unique blend of ryokan and modern hotel experiences. The public bath, especially the outdoor pools, offered stunning city views, making it a relaxing retreat. Breakfast was impressive, with diverse options to suit both Japanese and Western tastes. However, the decor felt tired, and organization during meals could use improvement, as I faced long waits for a table and limited options for those averse to fish. A commendable stay overall, with room for enhancements.

Family-friendly experience
The food was AMAZING! The onsen was very nice and the breakfast as well. The room was nice with great views! Just after checking in, I was pleasantly surprised to find my family enjoying a lovely private onsen, which had a view that was to die for!
It wasn’t cheap, but still, it was acceptable.

My stay at Takayama Ouan was good! I loved the rooftop onsen with amazing views, and the breakfast buffet offered delicious local specialties. The only drawback was the small room, which felt a bit cramped. An enjoyable experience worth recommending.

I had a pleasant stay and appreciated the convenience of being just a short walk from the train station. The no-shoes policy created a relaxed atmosphere as I explored the public onsen in the hotel. As someone who enjoys art history, I found the modern Japanese style intriguing.
The room was small, and I found it lacking storage space for my luggage.

spacious room , but a bit outdated
The onsen experience was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the private onsen, which was a rare treat. The room was spacious, offering ample space to relax after a long day of exploring.
While the hotel has its charms, some areas feel a little tired and in need of an update.

missingWrote a review on May 28private onsenfree udonnice viewssmall roomlimited storage
The facilities include three private onsen baths on the top floor, one being an outdoor bath with nice views. Two delightful free udon snacks at night provide a warm touch to the overall experience.
The self-service check-in on machines felt impersonal for such a location. Small rooms lead to limited storage, which may frustrate guests with more luggage. Access to the private onsens requires queuing, which isn't ideal for guests looking for a relaxing experience.

It was just a well-suited match for a city holiday in Takayama with fantastic value for money. The food was unexpectedly good, especially the Hida beef that we grilled ourselves in the evening. Make sure to visit during non-busy hours at the reception for quicker service.
